One of the biggest headaches for any Erasmus student arriving in Barcelona is finding a place to live. The million-euro question:
SHORT ANSWER:
Unless you're secretly a royal or a crypto millionaire — go for the room.
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND A ROOM?
Due to the high demand for student housing, finding a room in Barcelona has become quite a challenge in recent years. The rental market is on fire (and not in a fun way). Prices have gone up, and apartments in the city center are now almost unaffordable for most Erasmus students.
But don’t panic just yet.
If you know where to look — and we’ll tell you where — it’s still possible to find a decent place to live. You might need to compromise on location (expect to be 10–15 minutes away from the center by metro), but hey, the Barcelona metro goes everywhere and it’s pretty efficient. So, no biggie.

ROOM OR FLAT?
For erasmus students is really much more recommende to rent a room in a share flat with other people. read more info about where to live in Barcelona
Room rent prices: 400 - 700€ per month
Flat Prices: 800 - 1200€ per month
IMPORTANT TIP!
⚠️ Always visit the apartment before paying anything. And don’t hand over a deposit (la fianza) unless you’re getting the keys right there and then. Trust, but verify.
🛏️ ROOM OR 🏠 ENTIRE FLAT?
💡 Our honest advice?
Go for a room in a shared apartment. It’s cheaper, more social, and very common among Erasmus students.
Room rental prices: €400 – €700/month
Whole flat prices: €800 – €1,200/month(Plus bills, plus loneliness, plus the joy of dealing with your own broken boiler)
WHERE TO LOOK FOR SAFE ACCOMMODATION?
🔹 Spotahome
A popular platform where you can book rooms or flats online before arriving. They check the apartments in advance, so it's relatively safe — but you still can't visit before booking, which is a downside.
Good news?Use the promo code WELOVEBCN to get 25% off your booking via Spotahome, thanks to Erasmus Barcelona and WeLoveBCN.

🔹 RoomyApp
A new app where you can to finde rooms for rent and connect directly with the landlord or landlady is roomy. Download roomyapp here: app.roomy.me
🔹 Idealista
A popular platform where you can find everything from shared rooms to luxury penthouses you’ll never afford (but it’s fun to look anyway).
It’s one of the most-used rental websites in Spain, and yes — it’s legit. You can filter by neighborhood, price, number of roommates, whether it has a balcony for your plants, etc.
👉 Tip: Most of the listings are by agencies, and some will ghost you harder than your Tinder date. Be persistent, and message many landlords — not just one or two.

Heads up:
Expect to see some outrageous prices, especially in the center.
Some landlords don’t speak English, so Google Translate will be your new roommate.
And yes, once again — never send money before visiting the place.

SCAM ALLERT
Facebook is plenty of fake accounts who hook you with some rental proposal and then ask you money from remote and then disappear.
If you get contact by some suspicious account that want to rent you some flat or room just avoid or ask us for advise.
To be 100% safe first of all ask to landlord to visit the apartment. Only after visiting the apartment and ensure that someone is living inside, ask for the keys and give the first month as deposit.
